Review
To be completely honest, this book is a reread for me.  The second book in the series (Ignite) was just released and I often go back for a reread before I dive into the next book in a series.  I had read Burned back in June 2014 and gave it 5 stars at the time.  I agree with my assessment back in June, this book remains a 5 star read for me. I am amazed that this book packs such a punch; according to my Nook (I read both Kindle as well as Nook books), this book has only 126 pages.  But those pages are pretty powerful.
This book is a second-chance at love book.  I'm new to this blog but I'm just going to say right now:  Second chance books are one of my very favorite genres.  Something about finding someone again has always appealed to me.  This book, Burned, really fills the ticket!
Finnley is a woman standing at a crossroads of her life; she has finally had enough with her husband and decides to end the marriage that has been anything but healthy for her.  Her best friend (and by the way, her best friend Phina totally rocks!) coaxes her out of her house and takes her to the bar they frequented while they were younger.  While there, and feeling a bit out of place, she runs into her first love, Collin, the boy who broke her heart back in high school.  And the sparks fly....
Our eyes meet and, for a moment, I wonder if he'll even recognize me.  I mean, seventeen years is a long time.
He does, recognize her I mean.
I can't explain the sudden burst of happiness any more than I can contain the smile that hits my face at the thought of Collin being so close.  I watch a dimple for on his cheek when he smiles back at me and, for some crazy reason, butterflies start rapidly beating in my stomach.  I hold my breath as he picks up his bottle of beer and walks towards me.  His eyes never leave mine even as Phina says hello to him and he responds in kind.  He doesn't stop moving until he's right in front of me and I have to crane my neck to look up at him...His blue eyes stare into mine and his smile grows wider as he looks down at me. "Lee."  He whispers his nickname for me from back in the day and hearing it fall from his lips is like a straight shot of lust right between my legs.
I love Collin!  This is a guy who has loved Finnley since he was 15 years old.  He doesn't play games but he does recognize an opportunity when he sees one and makes his play.  This guy is awesome.  He's a true hero (he's a fireman) and he believes in encouraging a woman to follow her dreams.  He's kind and he's sexy as hell.  He's amazing!
To me, this book rocks for many reasons.  First, you never forget your first love and these two found one another again.  Two, Finnley's marriage wasn't healthy and her husband was a waste of air.  In contrast, Collin wants her to be happy and healthy but also recognizes her intelligence and her abilities and her talents and encourages her to follow her dreams (her husband didn't exactly do this).  It was lovely to see two people find each other again after seventeen years apart and it made my heart do the happy dance!
The chemistry between these two is off the charts.  Tara Sivec can really write a good sex scene and there are several scorching scenes in this book.
"Do you want me to fuck you against this wall, Finnley?" he whispers, running his hand back up my thigh until he's clutching my bare ass.  I'm at a loss for words when he speaks, pushing the head of his cock into me and holding still.  I try to push myself forward and bring him inside my body, but he holds himself away from me, teasing me with a swirl of his hips while he denies me the pleasure of his compete penetration..."Tell me what you want, Finnley.  Say it.  I want to hear you say it."..."Fuck me, Collin,  Jesus, just fuck me," I whisper harshly.  He lets out a guttural groan and slams into me with one hard thrust, filling me so completely that I shout in pleasure, tossing my head back.

Ultimately, this is just a great love story.  It has everything; it has true love, great sex, suspense (I thought I would crawl out of my skin at one point), an amazing BFF, a villain, and tension...a lot of tension.  It hit all the high points and was a story woven with flair.  I loved it!  I can hardly wait to dig into Ignite now (which is Phina's story).
