Synopsis
You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. But things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Then, just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

**Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

My Star Rating

My Review
Books of the quality of Stepbrother Dearest are the reason I started blogging in the first place. This book is a prime example of why I love this genre of books. When you start the book and fall in love with the characters, the writing, and the story it transports you to a magical literary world. I don’t know what anyone could have to say negative about this book. In my opinion it’s 5 stars, a must read. From start to finish I was hooked. I smiled, laughed, swooned, and got emotional. You know you’re reading a great book when it takes you through a mountain of emotions. This is the type of book that you can’t stop reading but at the same time you want to slow down so it doesn’t end.

Whit, sarcasm, and clever one-liners are heavily present in Stepbrother Dearest. And personally I am a fan of each of those things. Throw a clever, funny, sarcastic one-liner at me that makes me uncontrollably laugh and I am hooked. There were moments I had to literally stop reading until I got my giggles under control. Here are some of my favorite excerpts to prove my point:

Elec and Greta
As I turned around to head out the door, his voice stopped me in my tracks. “You act like you’ve never seen a guy naked before.”
“Actually…I haven’t.”
“How disappointing for you. It’s gonna be really hard for the next guy to measure up.”
“Cocky much?”
“You tell me. Don’t I deserve to be?”
“God…you’re acting like-“
“A giant dick?”

Greta
He was breathtaking… for a bastard.

He probably didn’t even leave me a tip. I opened it an gasped when along with a twenty-dollar bill was my favorite black lace thong and written in pen on the check:
Keep the change, or rather, change into these. I’m guessing your current ones are a little wet.

When I turned around, to my mortification, he was standing there with a dick in his hands, Not any dick. My dick. My vibrator. My purple life-sized rubber penis.
Elec wave it. “Nothing says I’m sorry like a dick and a smile.”
****
But it’s also sexy and romantic. And what’s more taboo or erotic than forbidden love? Not many things and this book has a hot forbidden love that we can all see is so right no matter the taboo. You can feel the spark between Elec and Greta while your reading.
****
I wrapped my arms around his neck and let out a breath so intense you would have thought I’d been holding it for seven years. Maybe I had been.
 ****
The chemistry between Elec and Greta is magnetic. As your reading you know that they belong together and it’s a fictional book relationship you are routing for. They knock on each other with witty sarcasm that masks a great sexual tension.
The characters are strong and relatable. They have issues that we can understand and that baggage causes problems between the two. The book starts when they are 18 and seniors in high school and then jumps ahead 7 years when the two are now adults.

Elec is the epitome of the misunderstood tattooed and pierced bad boy. His struggle with his allegiance to his mother and hatred toward his father puts him in between a rock and a hard place when he meets Greta.
Greta is sweet but strong, innocent but curious. She is attracted to her rebellious cocky mouthed, bad attitude stepbrother. She puts up a good fight and doesn't let him walk all over her just because he is pissed with his living arrangements.
****
Physically, he was my dream and in every other way, my nightmare.

I couldn’t put this book down and honestly it was one of my favorite books of 2014. It sucked me in to the story and I just wanted more. I recommend this book to everyone; it is a serious must read. A phenomenal love story, with a male AND female lead you will love. I would love a second book, and really, I just can’t wait for more of whatever Penelope Ward gives us, if this book is any indication of her future work.
