My Review - Ditching The Dream - By Isabelle Peterson

*Warning: I have already read the books I am covering, any and all posts may and do contain spoilers.

*Video not made by me. Made by a fellow fan :)

Time for some honesty people, I found this book through many recommendations on social media and then even had some contact with the author pre-read. Because of that, I am not surprised Ditching The Dream was a good read, but I am a little surprised it was a good book for me. I was slightly hesitant to pull the trigger and start reading because I felt like I wouldn't be able to connect with the characters. I am not married, have no kids and am much younger than Elizabeth. The characters are much older than I am and much older than the characters I normally read. Well, I was wrong and I loved it. It was easy to relate to Elizabeth despite the age difference and the read was sexy (kind of an understatement) and kept me wanting more.

Boy, when Elizabeth does something, she really goes all in. She takes off to a new city, and not just any city, but New York, and dives in deep with two men. It was a refreshing plot change from the norm. She was still the bright eyed inexperienced female lead, but she isn't the normal "Sandra D (Yes, that's a Grease reference), woman should act a certain way" good girl mumbo jumbo. She explores who she is, who she wants to be, and what she wants sexually.

42 years and never had an orgasm at the hands of a man?! 42 YEARS!! Blasphemy!! So very wrong, seriously it makes me want to cry for Elizabeth. Shame on Greg!!

Through the book I was team Kevin but I understand why Elizabeth was not in the end. Still if I could create "Javin" I would die a happy woman. I'd take Kevin's dark and sexy good looks and Jack's confidence, power, attentiveness, and yes, the sexual side of Jack. Yum. Does this make me sound vain? Oh well... :)

Excerpt:
Note to self: never spend three days away from this woman. Yes I'd missed the way Beth talked, and the funny insightful comments she made. Her intelligent views on the news, and how she gushed over the puppies in the window at the pet shop on Lexington. And I loved how she listened to what I had to say, and didn't try and turn whatever I did into an opportunity for her. She was genuinely interested.

That is definitely a Dom with a sentimental flair.

Excerpt Cont...
But the instant I saw her, conversation wasn't what I was missing. I wanted to thrust her against the wall, shove the dress aside and sink my throbbing cock into her. I needed Beth, mind and body, and it scared me.

Like I said, he is a Dom, so the hot sexy thoughts are there too.

I am intrigued by what the other aspect of Jack's sexual side is and can't wait to figure out who "B" is. Isabelle left a little mystery in the story. We don't really figure out this side of him in book 1 and I want to know more. It seems to stem from demons that Jack struggles with and I have a feeling we will be learning a lot more about Jack Stevens in book 2.

I am disappointed Elizabeth went back to Greg, but I understand it. She was married to him for over 20 years, they have kids together, and she just left with no effort to fix the problems between them. So yah, I understand why Elizabeth felt she needed to do more. However I thought the scene in Greg's hotel room where Elizabeth tries to make him feel less nervous was awkward and bizarre. Elizabeth goes back and forth through out the book on whether she is done with Greg or if she should put more work into her marriage. I felt it was kind of strange that she jumps right into a blow job. Especially when Greg seems appalled and she keeps going. But I guess she may have been struggling to articulate what she needed and how she felt.

Excerpt:
"Because I'm a selfish man who has never felt for another person what I feel for you. Because I want nothing more than to treasure you, and worship you for the next twenty or thirty years. I want to take you to Europe and South America. I want to make you feel as good about yourself as I feel about you. Because I like who I am when I'm with you"
...
"I won't give up on you, Beth. I can't. You are a part of me as much as I am a part of you. You can go back to Napa, but you'll always be here." He places his hands over his heart. "I'll wait for you. I'll wait because you're worth it."

Sigh… If you follow my blog and posts you know that I am a fan of long moving declarations. There is nothing better than a heart shattering, heartfelt proclamation of love. Jack does it right. His loves for Elizabeth shines through. It’s not all about him; his plea for her to choose him is about them and the life they can have together. It’s about her and what he wants to give her physically and emotionally. It’s not about her doing the laundry or cooking dinner. It’s about how she makes him a better person, their emotional bond, and how he wants Elizabeth to be and feel the best about herself as possible. How Elizabeth can walk away from that and return to a man who basically ignored her for the last 20 years, I don’t know…

Ditching The Dream changed my mind about prejudging a book on such a small element in the plot before reading and when selecting books. Aspects of what characters are going through are easily relatable even if you can’t grasp the full emotions. Most readers easily understand feeling lost or being on the wrong path in life. Book 1 is a steamy “love … rectangle (Over achiever much, Iz?)” that has you hot and bothered, rooting for characters, and wanting more! I found myself lacking sleep on more than one occasion because I couldn’t commit to my "just one more chapter promise" the night before            (I love coffee).

If you haven’t read Ditching The Dream… well you should. Add it to your t.b.r lists now. I’ve already dived into book 2, I had to figure out more about Jack and what happens. Leave me your thoughts and comments on Ditching The Dream and my review of the book.

Happy Reading! :)
